AfroImagine: A Global Storytelling Platform for Young African Voices

Introducing

AfroImagine

Writing the Africa We Dream

A Jordan Hill Creative Writing & Reading Workshop Initiative

AfroImagine is a literary initiative by Jordan Hill Creative Writing & Reading Workshop, built on years of nurturing young African writers through workshops, mentorship, and publishing opportunities.

Now, we’re taking that vision further with a digital platform created to spotlight the imagination, experiences, and cultural pride of African children across the continent and diaspora.

AfroImagine exists to fill a gap: to offer a lasting space where children can write, be heard, and grow as storytellers. It is a place where young voices are encouraged to envision, express, and shape the Africa they dream of in their words.

Our objective is to amplify these voices, support their development as confident, original writers, and create a global stage where their stories can influence how the world sees Africa.

AfroImagine is more than a platform — it’s a literary movement grounded in culture, creativity, and the limitless potential of African children.

Through stories, poems, essays, and dreams of all shapes, we invite young writers to imagine, express, and shape the Africa they carry in their hearts, not the Africa that is often spoken about, but the Africa they wish to experience, hope for, and dream into existence.

It does not matter where your child lives – in Lagos, Nairobi, London, Johannesburg, Accra, or Atlanta; anywhere – AfroImagine is a home for their voice – a place to explore African identity, culture, and creativity through powerful, original writing. From everyday fiction to futuristic storytelling, from poetry to personal reflection, we celebrate work that honours Africa’s richness, diversity, and possibilities.

Our Vision

To nurture a new generation of African storytellers who write with purpose, confidence, and creativity, and whose stories help the world see Africa through their eyes.

Who Is AfroImagine For?

AfroImagine is open to:

  • African children and teens (ages 7–19), on the continent or in the diaspora
  • Young writers passionate about telling African stories
  • Children eager to be mentored, published, and heard

We also welcome children from other continents and backgrounds who respectfully and thoughtfully engage with African narratives.

Get Published

We regularly invite young writers to submit original stories, poems, or reflections. Selected works will be published on the AfroImagine digital platform, and may also be featured in upcoming anthologies and editorial showcases.

More Than a Platform — A Movement

AfroImagine is a vibrant creative community, providing

  • A year-round space for children’s writing
  • Monthly featured stories and author highlights
  • Digital badges for creative growth and storytelling milestones
  • Opportunities to submit independently, beyond workshops or programme.
  • Personalised feedback on selected submissions to help young writers strengthen their craft and grow in confidence

Consent & Rights

All published stories require parent/guardian consent. Authors retain full copyright of their work. Jordan Hill may request optional photo/video permissions for promoting selected stories.

Recognition, Not Royalties

AfroImagine does not offer financial compensation for published contributions at this time. The platform is dedicated to nurturing young writers and our focus is on providing visibility, mentorship, and developmental opportunities.

Selected authors will receive:

  • Opportunities to be featured across AfroImagine and Jordan Hill media
  • Special recognition for outstanding work
  • A platform that celebrates their work and builds creative confidence.
  • We are committed to recognising each child’s creative voice and offering a space that nurtures growth, builds pride in identity, and empowers the next generation of African storytellers.

Authenticity Matters: AI & Story Submissions

While we recognise that AI may assist with general research, idea generation and planning, submitted stories must be the student’s own original work. Final pieces should reflect the young writer’s unique voice and creativity. Stories that are AI-generated or plagiarised will not be eligible for publication.

The AfroImagine digital platform will officially launch in September 2025, and we will begin inviting submissions from children across Africa and the diaspora soon.

Full submission details will be shared through our email newsletter and social media channels.

AfroImagine belongs to every child who dares to dream Africa in words.

Join us as we help shape the next generation of African storytellers.
