Jordan Hill Reading Quest is an exciting online summer reading programme for children aged 5 to 12 who want to enjoy books, read with more confidence, understand texts better, and talk about what they read.

In each Reading Quest mission, children explore stories, funny extracts, nonfiction texts, exciting openings, book discussions, and read-aloud activities in a fun and supportive way.

Children can join alone, with a sibling, or with friends.

Choose Your Mission and Session Times

Please choose the Mission or Missions your child or group would like to complete.

You may choose as many Missions in a Quest as you would like your child to go on.

Giggle and Read

Children read funny stories, jokes, riddles, and silly extracts while practising expression, fluency, and reading aloud with confidence.

In this mission, children learn that reading can be joyful, lively, expressive, and fun.

They will:

Read funny stories and silly extracts

Practise jokes and riddles

Use expression when reading aloud

Improve fluency and pace

Build confidence through laughter and reading games

Best for children who enjoy humour, playful stories, jokes, riddles, and lively reading.

 

Materials Needed for Giggle and Read

Children may need:

• A short funny story, joke sheet, riddle sheet, or silly reading extract provided by the Quest Guide

• Notebook or plain paper

• Pen or pencil

• Space to read aloud and laugh freely

• Optional favourite joke, riddle, or funny book to share

Fact Finders

Children read short nonfiction texts about animals, space, inventions, nature, famous people, or amazing facts.

In this mission, children practise finding key information and explaining what they have discovered.

They will:

Read short non-fiction texts

Find important facts

Identify key information

Answer simple questions

Share interesting discoveries with the tutor or group

Best for children who enjoy animals, science, space, inventions, nature, facts, and discovering new things.

 

Materials Needed for Fact Finders

Children may need:

• A short non-fiction text provided by the Quest Guide

• Notebook or plain paper

• Pen or pencil

• Coloured pencils or markers for highlighting key facts if using printed material

• Optional fact book, animal book, science book, space book, or interesting article the child already enjoys

• Any fact finder worksheet or question sheet provided before the session

Read Aloud Stars

Children practise reading aloud with pace, expression, pronunciation, pauses, and confidence.

In this mission, children learn how to make reading sound clear, natural, and enjoyable for a listener.

They will:

Practise reading aloud

Improve pronunciation

Use pauses correctly

Read with expression and confidence

Receive friendly feedback from the Quest Guide

Best for children who need more confidence reading aloud at home, in class, or in front of others.

 

Materials Needed for Read Aloud Stars

Children may need:

• A short reading passage, poem, story extract, or book page provided by the Quest Guide

• Notebook or plain paper

• Pen or pencil

• Earphones or headphones if available

• A quiet space for reading aloud clearly

• Optional favourite book or short passage the child would like to practise reading aloud

Page Turners Club

Children read exciting short extracts and explore how writers keep readers interested.

In this mission, children notice suspense, questions, surprises, cliffhangers, and moments that make readers want to continue.

They will:

Read exciting story openings or short extracts

Notice suspense and surprise

Talk about what makes a story interesting

Predict what might happen next

Discuss cliffhangers and page turning moments

Best for children who enjoy exciting stories, suspense, surprises, and books that make them want to keep reading.

 

Materials Needed for Page Turners Club

Children may need:

• An exciting story opening or short extract provided by the Quest Guide

• Notebook or plain paper

• Pen or pencil

• Sticky notes if available, for marking suspense, surprises, questions, or cliffhangers

• Optional favourite adventure, mystery, or exciting book to discuss

• Any prediction or discussion sheet provided before the session

 Book Chat Party

Children talk about books, share opinions, recommend stories, discuss favourite parts, and build confidence speaking about what they read.

In this mission, children learn how to express their thoughts about books in a clear and friendly way.

They will:

Talk about books and stories

Share favourite characters, scenes, or facts

Explain their opinions

Recommend books to others

Join a fun book discussion with the tutor or group

Best for children who enjoy talking, sharing ideas, recommending books, and learning with friends.

 

Materials Needed for Book Chat Party

Children may need:

• A favourite book, story, comic, poem, or nonfiction book to talk about

• Notebook or plain paper

• Pen or pencil

• A short list of favourite characters, scenes, facts, or moments from the book

• Optional book cover, picture, or object connected to the book

• Any book chat card or recommendation template provided before the session

Duration

Each Reading Quest mission takes place over two one hour online sessions.

Your child will need to book two sessions for the chosen mission.

Session 1 focuses on reading, guided practice, vocabulary, and discussion.

Session 2 focuses on deeper understanding, confidence, feedback, and a final reading activity.

Total learning time: 2 hours.

Meet Your Quest Guide

This Quest Mission is led by Ms Joy.

Your Quest Guide will explain the mission, guide the activities, support your child during the session, and help them complete their summer challenge with confidence.

Each Quest Mission is delivered over two one-hour sessions, so your child or group will need two separate session slots for the chosen mission.

You may choose any two available slots that work best for your family or group.

For group bookings, all families in the group must agree on the two preferred session days and times before the booking form is completed.
