Jordan Hill Puzzle Quest is an exciting online summer maths programme for children aged 5 to 12 who enjoy puzzles, codes, shapes, graphs, patterns, logic, and challenge questions.

In each Puzzle Quest mission, children use reasoning, investigation, games, clues, data, and visual problem-solving to think more deeply and creatively with maths.

Children can join alone, with a sibling, or with friends.

You may choose as many Missions in a Quest as you would like your child to go on.

Mystery Number Codes

Children solve hidden number puzzles and use symbols, patterns, and simple algebra ideas to crack secret codes.
In this mission, children learn how unknown numbers and patterns can be solved like mysteries.

They will:
Find missing numbers
Use symbols for unknown values
Solve simple equations
Crack number codes
Create their own code puzzle

Best for children who enjoy mystery, logic, codes, and number puzzles.

Materials Needed for Mystery Number Codes

Children may need:

• Notebook or plain paper

• Pen or pencil

• Coloured pencils or markers

• Number cards if available

• Small household objects for creating number patterns, such as buttons, coins, bottle tops, counters, or Lego pieces

• Any code breaking sheet, number puzzle, or algebra challenge provided before the session

Secret Code and Chance Quest

Children explore logic and probability through games, predictions, puzzles, and chance experiments.

In this mission, children learn how to make predictions, test ideas, and understand chance.

They will:

Solve logic puzzles

Make predictions

Use chance words such as likely, unlikely, certain, and impossible

Test probability through simple games

Record and compare results

Best for children who enjoy guessing games, experiments, and puzzle challenges.

 

Materials Needed for Secret Code and Chance Quest

Children may need:

• Notebook or plain paper

• Pen or pencil

• Dice if available

• Playing cards if available

• Coins for simple chance experiments

• Small objects such as counters, buttons, beads, or bottle tops

• A simple results table or recording sheet if provided before the session

• A small bag, cup, or container for chance games if needed

Shape Detectives

Children hunt for shapes, angles, symmetry, and patterns in pictures, objects, buildings, and everyday life.

In this mission, children learn how geometry appears in the world around them.

They will:

Identify 2D and 3D shapes

Explore symmetry

Spot angles and patterns

Describe shape properties

Complete a shape detective challenge

Best for children who enjoy drawing, visual puzzles, design, and finding patterns.

 

Materials Needed for Shape Detectives

Children may need:

• Plain paper or card

• Pen or pencil

• Coloured pencils, crayons, or markers

• Ruler

• Scissors if a cutting or folding activity is included

• Household objects with different shapes, such as boxes, tins, books, cups, plates, bottles, balls, toys, or containers

• A mirror if available for symmetry activities

• Any shape hunt sheet or geometry template provided before the session

Data Explorers

Children collect simple information, create charts or graphs, and explain what the data shows.
In this mission, children learn how numbers can tell a story.

They will:
Collect simple data
Create tally charts
Read bar charts or pictograms
Compare results
Explain what the data shows

Best for children who enjoy facts, surveys, charts, results, and discovering patterns in information.

 

Materials Needed for Data Explorers

Children may need:

• Notebook or plain paper

• Pen or pencil

• Coloured pencils or markers

• Ruler

• Graph paper if available

• A simple survey question to ask family members or friends, such as favourite colour, favourite fruit, favourite sport, or favourite animal

• Small objects for sorting and counting, such as toys, pencils, buttons, or bottle tops

• Any tally chart, bar chart, pictogram, or data template provided before the session

Puzzle Master Challenge

Children take on mixed maths puzzles involving logic, patterns, number clues, and problem-solving.

In this mission, children learn how to approach tricky problems calmly and creatively.

They will:

Solve word problems

Use reasoning

Break problems into smaller steps

Explain their thinking

Complete a final puzzle challenge

Best for children who enjoy brain teasers, challenge questions, and thinking deeply.

 

Materials Needed for Puzzle Master Challenge

Children may need:

• Notebook or plain paper

• Pen or pencil

• Coloured pencils or markers

• Ruler

• A basic calculator if needed for older learners

• Small objects for puzzle solving, such as counters, coins, dice, buttons, or Lego pieces

• Any word problem sheet, brain teaser sheet, logic puzzle, or final challenge template provided before the session

Duration

Each Puzzle Quest mission takes place over two one-hour online sessions.

Your child will need to book two sessions for the chosen mission.

Session 1 focuses on introducing the challenge, learning the method, and guided-puzzle solving.

Session 2 focuses on applying the skill, solving deeper challenges, and completing the final task.

Total learning time: 2 hours.

This Quest Mission is led by Ms Rachael.

Your Quest Guide will explain the mission, guide the activities, support your child during the session, and help them complete their summer challenge with confidence.
