Colours of Writing 2020

Hi there,

Colours of Writing is a virtual summer camp from August 3^rd – 28^th 2020, giving children aged 8–11 an impacting learning experience in adding colour to their writing through enriching vocabulary & the appropriate use of writing conventions.

When we write, we write in sentences. Beginning with a capital letter, we wind our way over words and phrases until we’ve expressed a complete thought, and then we mark the endpoint with a period, question mark, or exclamation mark.

Readers read the same way: they follow the shape of each sentence from beginning to end, trying to understand the single complete thought the writer is expressing. For readers to do that, writing needs to flow smoothly from word to word, phrase to phrase, and sentence to sentence.

The Colours of Writing is poised to inspire a love for writing in children of today and equip them with tools to become better writers. Participants will understand why writing effectively is important to success in life, what they need to write better, and how to improve their writing skills. Participants will learn how to use WRITING CONVENTIONS appropriately, CREATE SMOOTH AND EXPRESSIVE SENTENCES that will convey the intended message effectively in WELL-DEVELOPED PARAGRAPHS, as well as use good vocabulary which is an indispensable tool of writing.

This writing camp will enable participants

• to choose more descriptive words to help their reader envision what they are describing.
• to adapt their writing for their audience (e.g. simpler words for children and more complex words for older people).
• to create more variety in paragraphs and sentences with vocabulary words which keep their readers interested in what they have to say.

4 Weeks

Monday 3rd – Friday 28th August 2020

DIGITAL LEARNING PLATFORMS

Live lessons will hold on Zoom.

Time: 10:00am to 1:00pm daily.

Children will be engaged on the Microsoft Teams E-learning platform for classwork and offline activities.
